The R.V. College of Engineering (RVCE) alumni all over proudly announce "we are RVites". To achieve this credit, it was no easy task for the RSS Trust. But, the grit and determination of the founder secretary Late. M.C.Sivananda Sarma and philanthropist Sri.Meda Kasturi Ranga Setty have made it possible for this wonderful educational edifice to grow.

The college is one of the earliest self-financing premier engineering colleges in the country. Established in 1963 in a modest way at R.V. Teacher's College building, with less than a dozen faculty members in Basic Sciences, Civil Engineering, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, today, the college has grown beyond one's expectation.

Presently situated in the Bangalore-Mysore State Highway, it's popularly referred to as the "8th Mile". On the Vijayadashami day in 1965, the construction work of the new building was started. Philanthropists and educationists Yadalam Nanjaiah Setty, G.K.Sreenivasaiah, K.M.Nanjappa donated funds to build separate branch blocks. Even today, the blocks bearing their names at the entrance speak volumes about the benevolent contributions made by them.

Every social service endeavor is never an easy task. Likewise, education as a social service is undoubtedly filled with problems. In the initial stages, the RVCE faced financial crises. But, it was the efforts of Sri.Meda Kasturi Ranga Setty, K.M.Nanjappa and others who helped in overcoming these problems. The institution indeed is a case of being 'built with hearts and not with bricks'.

R.V College of Architecture
Estblished In : 1992

R.V College of Architecture was instituted in 1992-93, as a Department of Architecture of R V College of Engineering, with an intake of 30 students. The college was nurtured by eminent Architectural Educationists like Dr. K S Anantha Krishna, Late Prof. Sudheendra Yalavigi and others. Dr Om Prakash Bawane, an alumnus of NIT Bhopal and IIT Rourkee, is the Principal of the College.

The department started to make a mark by its earnestness to the cause of architectural education. Various workshops were held and an exhibition hall consisting of a cross section of student’s works, aided this process. The department shifted to its independent new premises in the campus in 1995, a building designed by Late Prof. Sudheendra for which the students added an artistic flavor.

Faculties with expertise in specialized areas were handpicked to establish the qualitative teaching core of the College whose guidance was in turn, sought earnestly by scholarly students.Reputed architects in Bengaluru like Ar Soumitro Ghosh, Ar Jaisim, Ar Naresh Venkataraman and others are brought in as visiting faculty to add expertise in the teaching panel. The academic rigor of R.V College of Architecture thus set in and improved over the years, receiving accolades nationally and internationally for providing quality education in architecture. From the year 2009, the Rashtreeya Sikshana Samithi Trust gave autonomy to the Department and R.V School of Architecture was institutionalized. In 2009 the Council of Architecture approved redesignation of the RV School of Architecture as RV College of Architecture, and, in 2014 the Government of Karnataka and Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi approved RV College of Architecture shifting to the New state of the Art Campus as a standalone Institution.   The scholastic pursuit was supplemented by quality improvement programs for teachers of architecture and continuing education programs for professionals organized by the College, an opportunity given to RVCA by the Council of Architecture. The Indian Institute of Architects, Karnataka chapter also collaborated with the College to organize workshops and seminars. Student and faculty exchanges took place between the College and University of Muenster, Germany and Moratuwa University, Sri Lanka. The students won several design competitions organized by NASA, Infosys, Ethos, Birla White and others. The students also won the Council of Architecture – NIASA award for Architectural Thesis awards for the years 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2011.
